Marvell keeps TSMC wafers that will no longer be sold to Huawei

We have recently seen Taiwanese foundry TSMC lose Huawei as one of the main customers. The reason is that the United States has 'prohibited' TSMC from continuing to supply SoC to the Chinese company. Well, this 'loss' has lasted very little, since the wafer production released will be left to Marvell. So Marvell will keep the 'excess' wafers from TSMC.

Many may or may know Marvell, but he is one of the leading controller manufacturers. Among others, they manufacture network drivers or USB drivers. Currently the company also stands out for developing controllers for 5G stations that it supplies to third-party companies, such as ZTE, Samsung and, curiously, Huawei.

Marvell keeps the wafers that TSMC was going to produce for Huawei

As it has been announced, Marwell will specifically stay with the N5P node. This node is an improved version of the 5nm node that will hit the market in September from Apple. N5P offers 10% less power consumption at the same performance as the 5nm node or 5% more performance at the same power consumption.

We are proud to partner with Marvell to serve the next-generation silicon data infrastructure market, and we are committed to supporting their growing needs for development, quality, supply, and capacity. In the 5G era, more applications than ever are demanding the most advanced silicon technology we can provide. We look forward to partnering with Marvell to meet these demands with our combined design and process expertise and to extend our long history of partnership to the 5nm generation and beyond.

Dr. Kevin Zhang, TSMC Senior Vice President of Business Development.

Now is the time to invest in data infrastructure - the world depends on us - and our customers depend on us. TSMC's 5nm process provides world-class power, performance, and density - and is critical to the demands of the world's leading cloud, 5G, enterprise and automotive companies. We are delighted to have a strategic partner like TSMC to help us continue to push the limits of innovation possibilities.

Raghib Hussain, Chief Strategy Officer and Executive Vice President of Marvell's Processors and Networking Group.
