Meteor Lake for the description would have been canceled and Raptor Lake Refresh would come out instead
Intel's 2023 roadmap has been showing for years that 14th Gen Intel Core Meteor Lake desktop CPUs would arrive by the end of 2023. But ultimately it might not, according to recent rumors that there would be no Meteor Lake for desk, a rumor that has been around for months.
According to the latest reports, the rumored Raptor Lake generation refresh will replace the promised desktop Meteor Lake CPUs . This would mean Meteor Lake will focus exclusively on laptop CPUs, while the advancements in architecture and cores will be implemented in desktops for the Intel Core Arrow Lake generation.
There would be no dedicated Meteor Lake for desktop computers, according to rumors
Intel is expected to unveil its 13th-generation non-K Core desktop chips at CES 2023 and reveal more details about the Core i9-13900KS. Intel's leaked 2023 roadmap also shows that Raptor Lake chips will be updated later in the year , in Q3 2023, with no mention of a Meteor Lake-S desktop CPU. This is typically the period when Intel releases new generations of Intel Core CPUs, with related motherboards from other manufacturers, among other things, making the absence of desktop CPUs a significant factor.
Regarding the absence of Meteor Lake-S from the roadmap, it's claimed that this could be due to the architecture's cancellation . This is according to @OneRaichu, who has previously reported accurately on Intel's launch plans and specifications for some of its products. With the cancellation of Meteor Lake-S, it's safe to assume that the Raptor Lake refresh will be its commercial replacement, allowing Intel to offer users improved CPUs without a complete architectural overhaul.
One Raichu has not specified the reason for this cancellation. KitGuru speculates that the Meteor Lake desktops have not met Intel's expectations and that is why they have decided to cancel them, while the laptops remain intact. Since they are CPUs in closed and dedicated platforms for each unit, such a brief advance would not be felt on the desktop if Meteor Lake had to be accompanied on the desktop with new motherboards and heatsinks, among others.
