A few months ago, Intel and Micron split heads in the design of the 3D XPoint memories and since then they have had a battle for patents. But now Micron will shell out a significant sum to keep Intel's share of IM Flash.

For the development of 3D XPoint both companies came together under IM Flash. 51% of the company is owned by Micron and the rest is owned by Intel. Now the company specializing in memories will pay between 1.300-1.500 million dollars to have the entire company. This movement is possible since conditions exist to be able to buy the remaining part of the company. A figure that includes a debt of Intel that oscillates the 1.000 million dollars. Micron on the other hand will keep a factory in Lehi, Utah.
It will be Intel who has the exclusivity regarding the production of 3D XPoint memories. It is not known in which factory he will produce them or if with the money he will come in he will decide to create an exclusive plant.
The separation of the two companies is due to the fact that they had different views on the production of these memories. Intel above all wants to focus on the consumer and business sectors. Micron believes that it is best to focus on data centers and large customers.
We recall that 3D XPoint is currently used in Optane memories. The company is working on SSDs based on these memories and will possibly implement them in its new gaming graphics.
