New Surface that would be presented in October based on AMD Ryzen 3000 processors
Rumors appear about the new Microsoft Surface that will be presented in October will be based on the AMD Ryzen 3000 processors.
The processor market has undergone a major transformation with the arrival of AMD's Ryzen 3000 series . Now, it has been leaked that Microsoft, which is planning to unveil new Surface devices in early October, might use AMD Ryzen processors. The Surface Studio and Surface Laptop have consistently used Intel processors. According to the rumor, they may opt for AMD processors instead of Intel ones.
It is not a sure thing, but when the river sounds, water carries. This movement would have to do with the price of processors. Note that the Ryzen 3000 APUs are based on Zen + @ 12nm, not based on Zen2 @ 7nm. The difference factor with Intel processors is that the integrated graphics are very powerful.
Microsoft could opt for AMD Ryzen processors in the Surface
WindFuture highlights: “Due to a corresponding series of entries in non-public databases from European retailers, we are confident that the new 3-inch Surface Laptop 15 will definitely be equipped with an AMD processor. Based on the current state, we have found three AMD-based models of the Surface Laptop 3 with a 15-inch screen. "
If this information is confirmed, it will undoubtedly be a great marketing success from AMD. Currently the APUs for the laptop market available are the Ryzen 7 3700U and Ryzen 5 3500U. These two processors are based on Zen + @ 12nm, as we said, so they will not be as efficient as the Zen2 @ 7nm. Maybe there is some custom solution based on 7nm, but we don't know.
In a price comparison, PC Perspective highlights that a Lenovo with an AMD processor costs $ 1. Its equivalent in Intel Ice Lake ranges from $ 300, which is about $ 1 of extra cost. We will see if this information is confirmed and the price is reduced and they are more affordable for the end user.
