MSI to release AGESA 1.2.0.0 BIOS that enables Resizable BAR for NVIDIA graphics in January

MSI to release AGESA 1.2.0.0 BIOS for X570, B550, A520, X470 MAX and X450 MAX chipsets adding support for Resizable BAR

The launch of the new AMD Ryzen 5000 processors has brought some interesting technologies like Resizable BAR. A technology that MSI will bring to AMD 400 Series chipsets via BIOS update. Now MSI announces the release of AGESA 1.2.0.0 this very month of January. Although they have not given a date, they must be falling, since the month is ending.

MSI will release AGESA 1.2.0.0 BIOS this January for some chipsets

The first chipsets to receive this new BIOS from MSI will be the X570, B550, A520, X470 MAX and B450 MAX. Additionally, BIOS for X470 and B450 chipset motherboards will be released in February.

As news in these BIOS we will have:

  • Full compatibility and optimization with AMD Ryzen 5000 Series processors
  • Support for Resizable BAR technology on NVIDIA graphics
  • Improved support for the AM4 processor

Possibly the most relevant is the Resizable BAR support on NVIDIA graphics. Enabling this feature by BIOS should improve performance by up to 10%.

An improvement in compatibility with AM4 processors stands out, but without giving more data. Support may be added for unreleased processors such as Ryzen 5000G APUs.

MSI AGESA BIOSes can be loaded using M-Flash or Flash BIOS. We must bear in mind that the BIOS, the chipset and the motherboard must match. If you want to see the list of BIOS available from MSI, you can do it in its official website.

Note that the Ryzen 5000 will be, by all accounts, the last to use the AM4 socket. By the end of the year or early 2022, the AM5 socket with DDR5 support should arrive. Supporting this new RAM standard requires a new specific socket.
