A leak made by WCCFTech claims that MSI prepares more than one power supply MEG and MPG, which will have PCIe Gen 5 connectors and Platinum SKUs up to 1300 W. They will be fully compatible with the next generation of GPUs that will arrive later this year, that is, the Ada Lovelace RTX 4000 that are expected to have a huge energy consumption.
WCCFTech contributes images and they affirm that they will be presented this year. The range includes two new MSI MEG 80 Plus Platinum power supplies and three MPG 80 Plus Gold. The MSI MEG line of power supplies will include a 1300W and a 1000W power supply, which will be based on the new MSI GI engine to drive the most power demanding CPU and GPU combinations. On the other hand, the MSI MPG range of power supplies is aimed at high-end PCs with 1000W, 850W and 750W units.
MSI is already preparing power supplies for modern high-end CPUs and GPUs
The range of power supplies that MSI would have in development includes the following:
- MSI MEG 1300W (with GI Engine) 80 Plus Platinum
- MSI MEG 1000W (with GI Engine) 80 Plus Platinum
- MSI MPG 1000W 80 Plus Gold
- MSI MPG 850W 80 Plus Gold
- MSI MPG 750W 80 Plus Gold
All of them are fully PCIe Gen 5 compliant, so they come with a proper PCIe Gen 5 connector on the PSU and also come with the necessary PCIe Gen 5 cables for GPUs like the RTX 30 Founders Edition, and that very surely they use the RTX 40. They claim that the MSI MEG & MPG line comes with a 12+4 pin to 12+4 pin cable and a 2x 8 pin to 1x 12+4 pin adapter cable.
You got to see some pre-production samples of the MSI MEG and MPG series power supplies. They state that the MPG A1000G does not come with a PCIe Gen 5 connector and new PCIe Gen 5 adapter cable, as mentioned above, while the MPG V2 series comes with the connector and cables.
A single 16-pin power connector that can supply up to 600 watts of power to the card. The bad thing about this design is that cannot power PCIe Gen 2 or 3 graphics.
