MSI indicates that the GDDR6 memories for the RX 5600 XT that they have received operate at 12Gbps

Just days before launch, AMD modified the BIOS for the RX 5600 XT graphics cards. This BIOS change represents a frequency increase in both the GPU and the VRAM memories. This change is mainly due to the price reduction of NVIDIA's RX 2060 Founders Edition. This last minute BIOS modification would be causing quite a bit of problems among assemblers.

The improvement of the frequencies supposes an extra of performance without affecting, for the moment, the price. Some of the graphics cards, due to the new BIOS, they would be having major temperature problems. To adjust the prices, some assemblers have adjusted the heatsinks to offer the most economical solutions.

MSI on the RX 5600 XT

Both AMD and MSI usually give the assemblers a 'pack' that contains the GPU and the memories. It appears that AMD shipped GDDR6 @ 14Gbps memory for the RX 5600 XT, which is the same memory used in the RX 5700 Series. But MSI has highlighted that they have received GDDR6 @ 12Gbps memory. These memories are what the new RX 5600 XT were to carry initially.

In order to avoid thermal problems and possible massive breakage of graphic cards, they have left the memories with the frequency of stock. So the memories of the first batch, at least, will arrive with memories of 12Gbps. Overclocking the memories would mean that they operate at a higher temperature and can be broken sooner.

MSI RX5600XT

As specified from MSI, they will launch three models of graphics cards based on the RX 5600 XT. The company indicates that the Gaming Z will be the only ones with VRAM GDDR6 @ 14Gbps. The Mech models and the Gaming X models, on the other hand, will use GDDR6 @ 12Gbps VRAM memory.

We recommend looking carefully at the specifications of the graphics to know the frequencies of the VRAMs. It is known that it is not the only assembler that will launch graphics with GDDR6 @ 12Gbps memory.
