MSI mistakenly lists the AMD TRX40 chipset for the next Threadripper
The AMD TRX40 chipset is mistakenly leaked by AMD that is intended for the upcoming Ryzen Threadripper processors.
Although AMD Threadripper processors don't have an official release date, we've been talking about them for weeks. These new processors are intended for workstations and small servers. There's no confirmation that these processors will come with a new chipset, although there were rumors. MSI seems to have inadvertently confirmed the TRX40 chipset, which will be used in the entry-level processors.
The TRX40, TRX80 and WRX80 have been talked about for a few weeks. MSI has confirmed this chipset and therefore everything is apparently confirmed. The new Threadripper are expected to arrive in November with the Ryzen 9 3950X. A delay in these processors that is due to the fact that TSMC is overwhelmed by the demand for silicon in 7nm.
MSI confirms TRX40 chipset for new AMD Threadripper
A leak that appears on the company's own website. Specifically on a page where it offers a Steam card valued at $ 25. So apparently those who buy a Creator TRX40 will receive a Steam card.
TRX40 will be the simplest chipset of the three designed for low-cost Threadripper. Apparently this chipset will support Threadripper of max 32 cores and possibly only Quad Channel support. It will be the economic solution that competes with the 10th Generation Intel Core-X.
The TRX80 and WRX80 will be aimed at processors up to 64 cores and will offer support for a large number of PCIe 4.0 lanes. These chipsets are designed for 64-core processors and with support for Octa Channel. They will be the direct competition of the C621 chipset for the new Xeon W-2200.
There is also talk that the new Threadripper will not be supported by current AMD chipsets. It is possible that those that are supported by the TRX40 will receive backward compatibility. The most powerful may no longer support it.
