MSI registers two RTX 3060 Ti Miner models to mine Ethereum

MSI registers two RTX 3060 Ti Miner charts aimed directly at mining cryptocurrencies like Ethereum

A few days ago NVIDIA hinted at the real possibility of creating graphics dedicated to cryptocurrency mining. This segment is very profitable and in times of price rise, the demand for solutions increases. MSI has registered with the ECC at least two models of graphics for mining. Specifically, we are talking about the MSI RTX 3060 Ti Miner 8G and RTX 3060 Ti Miner 8G OC, which would be very interesting to mine Ethereum.

MSI registers the graphs for mining RTX 3060 Ti Miner 8G and RTX 3060 Ti Miner 8G OC

There is no data on the specifications of these MSI RTX 3060 Ti Miner models, but it will surely be quite simple. At most a video output and active but simple heatsinks, without RGB. They could also be trimmed in BIOS.

What doesn't quite make sense is overclocking the MSI RTX 3060 Ti Miner 8G OC for Ethereum mining. An undervolt is typically performed and the frequency increased to increase efficiency and profitability.

These MSI charts are likely not to be released commercially and are only sold by direct order. It also seems obvious that other assemblers will end up following in the wake. Despite whoever it may be, cryptocurrency mining is profitable and brands don't care who buys, they want to sell.

Changes in Ethereum could be causing the increase in sales

The rise in the price of Bitcoin after the third halving, which happened last year, the price rise was foreseeable. As all altcoins are tied to the price of Bitcoin, they have all risen in price. Ethereum is the one that stands out the most, among others, because in August it should go from PoW to PoS, so it will no longer be mineable with graphs.

Hence, the demand for graphics for mining is so strong. When Ethereum goes to PoS it can no longer be mined, you can only have one validator node. For that you need 35 Ether and of course, everyone wants to get them mining, which is cheaper than buying them.

But NVIDIA's response comes too late, publicly at least. Although they launch solutions shortly, they will already arrive late and will not solve the problem in the short term. They should have been more forward-looking, taking into account the situation experienced in 2017.

Note that AMD is also affected by this problem, although it does not say much about it. The RX 5700 XT are the ones that offer the best price / power ratio, with a better consumption than the NVIDIA. Let us also remember that AMD has on its website a page dedicated to cryptocurrency mining (although outdated)
