NVIDIA RTX 3000 already supports ReSize BAR thanks to MSI

AMD's big bet for Ryzen 5000 processors has been the implementation of Smart Access Memory technology. This technology is simply an implementation of Resizable Base-Address Register (ReSize BAR), developed years ago by PCI-SIG (the organization that manages the PCI Express standard). Motherboard manufacturers are supporting it for Intel Z490 and H470 chipsets . Now, MSI is enabling this ReSize BAR technology to function even on NVIDIA RTX 3000 Series graphics cards.

Although AMD was the first to actively use this technology, Intel Haswell processors already supported it , though it was never activated. AMD's aim was to claim the distinction of being the first to use this interesting technology. Furthermore, it offers a performance boost for Radeon graphics cards.

MSI allows using ReSize BAR on Intel motherboards with NVIDIA RTX 3000 graphics

The MSI Z490 GODLIKE motherboard has been spotted with a Core i9-10900K processor and an NVIDIA RTX 3000 series card with support for Large Memory Range. The specific graphics card being used is unknown, but it appears to be an RTX 3090.

The 'Large Memory Range' parameter indicates that the graphics card has full access to the VRAM . It appears that this support has been integrated by MSI through a specific BIOS. We don't know if NVIDIA has been collaborating with the Taiwanese company on this implementation. A few weeks ago, it was revealed that NVIDIA was working on offering ReSize BAR support for Ampere architecture graphics cards.

Simply put, Re-Size BAR allows the processor to access all of the graphics card's VRAM. This enables it to load processes or tasks that the GPU might need in the future. Previously, this was limited to 256MB, with the remaining data stored in DDR4 RAM or the processor. Storing it in this location reduces latency and effectively improves performance.

The performance improvement with ReSize BAR is up to 13% , which is excellent. This improvement requires no overclocking or other measures.

It's worth noting that ReSize Bar was the name PCI-SIG gave to this technology. AMD has named it AMD Smart Access Memory (SAM). MSI and ASUS have opted to use the same name PCI-SIG gave it years ago. ASRock, for its part, has called it Clevar Access Memory . In the end, it's the same technology, but with a different name.
