Chinese manufacturer starts production of 3-layer 64D NAND Flash memory for SSD

The YMTC factory in China has been launched, being the first Chinese manufacturer to produce 3-layer 64D NAND Flash memory.

For many years, China has chosen to pull prices on labor and not put restrictions on pollution. The Asian giant has decided to radically change its economic model by betting on technology and innovation. The result of this is the construction of the Yangtze Memory Technology (YMTC). The factory of this company is already ready and has already begun to produce memories 3D NAND Flash 64 layers.

This is an important step for China, since for some time now they have been seeking independence from the United States. Trump is putting a lot of pressure on the Chinese government and has placed significant tariffs. Which, on the other hand, are affecting consumers who see how technological products become more expensive.

China already have their own 3-layer 64D NAND Flash memory factory

It is true that there are already many memory plants in the Asian country, but none are their own. YMTC is a company created in 2016, which has strong financial support from the government. The newly built plant should produce about 100 wafers per month. They are expected to produce 000 wafers of 2020D NAND Flash memory per month by 150.

Something very interesting is that to manufacture these memories they make use of the Xtracking architecture. This architecture is typical of YMTC and allows to separate the processing between the matrix of the flash cells and the logic circuitry in the wafers. It also allows the use of lower voltage transistors, allowing advanced functions, achieving equal I / O speed of DDR4 memory without limitations.

YMTC will not go through the 96 layers, which the rest of the manufacturers are doing. The company will jump directly to 128 layers, which is a very important rival in a highly competitive market.
