The new Intel NUCs will be based on Tiger Lake-U but with a third-party GPU
Compact systems are increasingly in demand by companies and users and Intel knows that perfectly. For this market I develop NUC systems, very compact computers that balance power and size. Now the roadmap of the new Intel NUC Ghost Canyon and Hades updates for 2020 and 2021 has been leaked. The NUC Extreme this year will already receive the Tiger Lake-U processors, For example.
Interestingly, despite integrating a Tiger Lake-U processor, this new Intel NUC will not have Xe graphics. The review of the current Hades Canynon will use third-party graphics, which is logical, since Intel's iGPUs for gaming are insufficient. Possibly implement entry-level solutions from NVIDIA.
New Intel NUCs based on Tiger Lake-U will not use Xe graphics
We have to point out that the slide does not clearly indicate that the Tiger Lake-U will lack an integrated graphics. They may have an integrated Intel Xe, for when there is no workload. When it loads, such as games, a dedicated graphics from a third company will enter, possibly NVIDIA. It seems difficult for Intel to bet on AMD solutions again, as it did in the past.
Possibly a discrete NVIDIA Ampere dGPU is integrated, something equivalent to a GTX 1650 or maybe GTX 1660. The Ampere architecture will be based on 7nm and will be much more efficient, so it should not be difficult to integrate it. Perhaps they already integrate a new generation Ampere graphics that integrate second generation RT Cores, more powerful and efficient.
A new Intel processor with an AMD iGPU is unlikely, after Intel announced the discontinuation of the processors they made together. In addition, Intel would not be comfortable with the idea knowing that AMD cuts ground in the processor market at full speed. It will simply be a matter of being patient.
