NVIDIA says its RTX 2080 is more powerful than the next generation console GPU

Both Sony and Microsoft are writing important checks that we will see if they have funds. The next consoles of both companies will arrive at the end of 2020, taking advantage of the Christmas period. But while this is happening, the CEO of NVIDIA, Jen-Hsun Huang assures that the RTX 2080 is more powerful than the next generation of consoles. It is clearly not a dart to Sony or Microsoft, it is a dart to AMD.

The reason for this statement seems obvious and is that the AMD RX 5700 XT barely performs like the RTX 2070 and without Ray Tracing. Sony and Microsoft have required AMD to implement hardware for Ray Tracing, something that we do not know how it will work out. Currently AMD does not support ray tracing technology in its graphics.

NVIDIA charges against the next generation of consoles

The rumors surrounding the next generation of consoles are starting to get incredible at all levels. Microsoft promised to play 8K with HDR, the two have promised 4K @ 60FPS with HDR and Ray Tracing. These checks are currently bottomless, based on the hardware we have on the market. NVIDIA with its Turing graphics suffers a significant drop in FPS with Ray Tracing and AMD is expected to do the same.

Unfortunately Huang has not provided details regarding his claim. Simply in an image it indicates that the RTX 2080 of a Lenovo laptop is superior to the next generation of consoles. Huang's claim may be risky, but considering the background, it's not crazy.

In addition NVIDIA in 2020 would launch, predictably, the RTX 3000 Series. These new graphics cards will be based on TSMC's 7nm lithography and will be more polished for Ray Tracing. The graphics of the next consoles, unfortunately, have little room for technical improvement. Then it remains to be seen how the developers manage to squeeze the performance of the GPU and CPU.
