NVIDIA's Jen-Hsun Huang says buying a graphics card without RayTracing support is "crazy"
NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang says it is "crazy" to buy a graphics card that doesn't support RayTracing technology.
The Turing architecture that brings the new NVIDIA graphics to life implements RT Cores for RayTracing. This technology is only partially applied at the moment, and Cyberpunk 2077 could be the first game to fully implement it. While that comes, Jen-Hsun Huang has talked about RayTracing technology. During the rendering of financial results, he said that it is "crazy" not to buy graphics with RayTracing at this point.
It should be noted that this technology is still very green and is partially integrated into games. Some add shadows, refractions, reflections, ambient occlusion, or a combination of two or three of these elements. The cost of RayTracing is brutal, the amount of FPS can drop up to 50%.
Jen-Hsun Huang Says Buying a Graphics Without RayTracing Is Silly
Regarding financial results, the company's gaming products business is up 27% compared to the second quarter of this year. Huang has indicated that the good data is due to the entry-level GeForce GTX and the RTX Super. The latter offer quite a notable performance improvement over their predecessors.
He has also referred to RayTracing. He says that right now buying a graphics without support for this technology is crazy. The truth is that there are few games that justify the purchase of one of these graphic faces.
“The NVIDIA GeForce RTX SUPER are off to an excellent start and at this point it is a foregone conclusion that we are going to buy a new graphics card, and that you are going to be out of RayTracing for the next 2, 3 or 4 years, that's crazy.
The content with RayTracing keeps coming out. And between SUPER's performance and the fact that it has dedicated hardware for RayTracing, it will be very well positioned for the whole of next year. "
Huang is certainly partly right. If in two years the game catalog has improved a lot in terms of RayTracing, the graphics too. The RTX Super improve capacity over its predecessors. Next year the Ampere are expected, the first in 7nm and with more power than the current ones in RayTracing. It seems logical to wait for the future, with better graphics and more games. The truth is that of all the titles, only Control and Cyberpunk 2077 want to play it in RayTracing (from my point of view, of course)
