NVIDIA will not attend the Mobile World Congress due to the coronavirus

NVIDIA has made an important announcement regarding the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona . The company has just announced that it will not be attending the event as a preventative measure due to the coronavirus. Thus, the Barcelona event, which takes place from February 24th to 27th, is losing some of its most prominent brands. This follows the cancellations by Ericsson and LG, and the minimal presence of ZTE.

The coronavirus poses a health risk at events as large as this. MWC differs from other events in that the presence of Asian people, and especially people from China, is significant. We have attended for several years, and finding Chinese citizens is the norm, as major companies have interests there.

NVIDIA is not going to the MWC either

“Given the public health risks surrounding the coronavirus, our primary concern is ensuring the safety of our colleagues, partners, and customers,” NVIDIA stated . The company also indicated that they have been in contact with GSMA, the event organizers, regarding the decision.

We're talking about one of the world's most important technology conferences and the most important one held in Spain. This year, NVIDIA was scheduled to focus on 5G networks and Artificial Intelligence. The company also thanks the GSMA for organizing the event and "their continued efforts to ensure security." However, they maintain that they have made "the right decision."

Despite the fact that we've already added three big-name cancellations, the GSMA says the MWC will be held "as planned." They emphasize that all possible preventive measures will be taken to avoid contagion by coronavirus. Among others, disinfectant alcohol dispensers will be installed, microphone changes between speakers or avoiding contacts such as shaking hands. The devices will also be cleaned with disinfectant every time a participant touches them, for safety.

Despite having accreditation for the event, for security reasons we will not attend the event.
