NVIDIA RTX 3050 does not give good results mining cryptocurrencies
A source close to the Videocardz portal has provided them with some data on the performance of Ethereum mining of the next graphics card NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050. It seems that the card would have been put up for sale with the algorithm Lite Hash Rate, an algorithm that NVIDIA has introduced so that miners have no interest in these graphics cards by limiting the hash rate for mining, with the intention of making consumers buy them.
This has been known because the hash rate drops from 20 to 12,5 MH/s in a matter of seconds once it detects that it is being used to mine cryptocurrencies. Once the card achieves this hash rate, it only consumes 73W, which is another indicator that it limits its use for mining.
The RTX 3050 is for gamers
These figures appear to be confirmed by a Chinese YouTuber who posted similar results using different mining software. According to those results, the card offers 13,66 MH/s at 57W, which implies further optimizations.
Taking these figures into account, with the NVIDIA suggested retail price and the current value of Ethereum, the ROI of the RTX 3050 in more than 500 days and that's assuming the card costs 250 USD. As soon as the card goes on sale at a higher price, the time the card goes on the market at a higher price, can increase the investment point to 700 days. Such a long-term investment, with capped profits and the current trend where all cryptocurrencies are falling, makes buying an RTX 3050 to mine any cryptocurrency an extremely risky investment.
Add to that the price of electricity, of mining rigs, the possible change of Ethereum to proof of stake in June, and regulations against cryptocurrencies that more and more countries are imposing. hopefully at least this RTX 3050 and many more will not be hoarded by miners, but it will not prevent us from being hoarded by resellers.
