The NVIDIA RTX 3060 is limited for mining

YouTuber specialized in cryptocurrency mining takes a Zotac RTX 3060, puts it to mine and after a while the performance declines

Yesterday NVIDIA announced specialized CMP graphics cards for cryptocurrency mining. Along with this announcement, it indicated that the NVIDIA RTX 3060s would be limited to mining Ethereum and cryptocurrencies. Well, the threat was not an empty ad, far from it. CryptoLeo, a YouTuber, has tested the performance of the RTX 3060 mining Ethereum.

NVIDIA RTX 3060 performance for Ethereum mining

NVIDIA announced yesterday that the RTX 3060 had a system that limited it to mining. It's not really clear how it works, but you may recognize Ethereum's mining algorithm, which is called EthHash.

CryptoLeo got hold of a Zotac RTX 3060 Twin Edge. We do not know where you got this graphics card from, since theoretically it is not for sale yet. Surely someone remembers yesterday's controversy with Zotac and the tweet supporting mining.

Well, CryptoLeo puts the RTX 3060 to mine Ethereum and gets a rate of 41.5MH / s. This equates every day, discounting electricity, to just over $ 5 of profit mining Ethereum. After a couple of minutes the power drops to 26-24MH / s.

The NVIDIA RTX 3060 does not have official drivers available yet, as it is not sold. The limitation for cryptocurrency mining may be built into the graphics BIOS. Something that theoretically makes manipulation or bypass the restriction more difficult.

This seems to show that NVIDIA wants to segment the market. The NVIDIA GeForce range will serve for gaming and will have a limitation that the mining software could detect by BIOS. Thus, the NVIDIA CMP range would be exclusive for cryptocurrency mining.

Like this time there are not so many problems when it comes to launching the NVIDIA GTX 3060. We remember that this graphic will be launched on February 25.
