NVIDIA explains about the image of an RTX 3070 FE with an 8-pin PCIe connector

The new NVIDIA RTX 3000 graphics cards, at least the Founders Edition model, are based on the company's own 12-pin power connector. A few days ago NVIDIA posted an image of an RTX 3070 with an 8-pin PCIe connector for power. Well, after the uproar NVIDIA had to go out and talk about the 8-pin PCIe connector.

One of NVIDIA's bets for its RTX 3000 is known as the 12-pin connector. This connector is more compact than two 8 + 8 pin PCIe connectors and would withstand more power. Hence, an image with a graphic with the 8-pin PCIe connector has attracted attention.

Faced with the questions raised based on the image, the company has had no choice but to explain. NVIDIA has indicated that this RTX 3070 is simply "a mere concept of art." They have indicated that the images do not always have to be the same as the final product design. They have also wanted to make it clear that they are not going to replace the 12-pin connector in their graphics.

Certainly the 8-pin PCIe connector and the 75W offered by the PCIe interface, would be enough to power the graphics. Note that the RTX 3070 has a TDP of 220W. But the 12-pin connector is quite curious, since only 6 of the connectors power the GPU. The other half of these connectors are simple plastic holes that do not perform any work.

One gamble, this one from NVIDIA, which really makes little sense right now. No power supply that we know of supports this new power connector. This has forced NVIDIA to include an adapter with its Founders Edition graphics cards.
