NVIDIA RTX 3070 is listed on the company's website with GDDR6X memory, instead of GDDR6
On Tuesday, NVIDIA unveiled its new Ampere architecture graphics cards, the RTX 3000 series. As expected, much has been written about these cards in recent days. The RTX 3070 was presented as the entry-level model, offering immense power at a groundbreaking price. This card uses GDDR6 memory, although a section of NVIDIA's website mentions GDDR6X.
One of the reasons why GDDR6 memory would be used, would be to reduce graphics costs. GDDR6 memory has been on the market longer and its manufacturing process is highly polished, while GDDR6X is newer and harder to make. What's more, NVIDIA has exclusively purchased all GDDR6X batches from Micron.

During the presentation of Ampere by Jen-Hsun Huang it was clear that GDDR6X would only be for the RTX 3090 and RTX 3080. NVIDIA currently reserves these memories for its flagships. The RTX 3070 and the models that may exist below it will use GDDR6 memory.
Yesterday the Twitter user @ some1sm warned us of something strange on the NVIDIA website. When you display the specifications of the RTX 3070 it appears that it will use GDDR6X memory. In the summary of specifications GDDR6 is indicated and in a comparison that is on the NVIDIA website it also appears as GDDR6.
The explanation is very simple. They created a template with the specifications and duplicated the page several times and someone overlooked the detail of the memories. Actually the RTX 3070 will not make use, at least for now, of GDDR6X memory because the production does not reach all.
We have to bear in mind that the RTX 3090 make use of 24 GDDR6X chips and the RTX 3080 make use of 10 GDDR6X chips. The RTX 3080 is priced at $ 719 (Founders Edition model) and may sell quite easily due to its sheer power. Micron at the moment would offer limited quantities that do not allow to integrate GDDR6X beyond the two models indicated by NVIDIA
