NVIDIA would be preparing an RTX 3080 with 20GB GDDR6X

Just yesterday the NVIDIA RTX 3080 went on sale, which was presented earlier this month. This is the first to go on sale, but we have days with rumors of improved graphics models not even presented. Now it seems that the rumors of an RTX 3080 with 20GB GDDR6X are growing, which does not even have a date.

While this is all hearsay at the moment, there is a lot of speculation regarding model reviews, including the RTX 3080. The RTX 3080 with 20GB GDDR6X seems relatively confirmed by the PG132 SKU 20 board design. The PG132 board is used for the RX 3080 and 20 would theoretically indicate the 20GB GDDR6X.

NVIDIA would respond to the AMD RX 6000 with the RTX 3080 20GB GDDR6X

The information suggests that this new NVIDIA graphics would be a hypothetical answer to the AMD RX 6900. Theoretically the RX 6900 is based on the rumored Big Navi silicon and would come with 16GB GDDR6. Although its performance would more closely match the RTX 3070, NVIDIA wants to crush the competition.

Clearly NVIDIA hasn't pulled out all the muscle it can get with its new Ampere graphics. Among the three graphics models presented by NVIDIA there is room for more improved solutions and more than sufficient price margins. Everything suggests that Ampere will receive Ti and Super models, or at least one of the two.

All this comes from the fact that NVIDIA released a whitepaper yesterday where it talks about the RTX 3080. This document refers to this graphics as 'GeForce RTX 3080 10GB'. The document mentions other Ampere models, but none of them reference the amount of GPU VRAM in the name. Some speculations suggest that it is one more indication of the existence of the RTX 3080 20GB GDDR6X.

The document mentions the RTX 3070, but there are no references to the amount of VRAM in the name of it. Let's remember that there is also talk of an RTX 3070 with 16GB GDDR6, twice the VRAM than the current RTX 3070.
