NVIDIA RTX 3080 moves DOOM Eternal in 4K @ 120FPS

NVIDIA's new generation of graphics cards has been a major statement from the company. Impressive graphics power at quite reasonable prices will delight gaming enthusiasts . The standout model is the RTX 3080, a graphics card capable of running DOOM Eternal on Ultra settings at 4K resolution with a frame rate exceeding 120 FPS.

It seems feasible with an RTX 3080 to be able to fully exploit 4K monitors with refresh rates between 120Hz and 144Hz. Also, due to its power, the standardization of 2K @ 240Hz monitors or 1080p @ 360Hz monitors could occur. All of these refresh rates to date were hard to come by without many adjustments.

The leap between the Turing architecture (RTX 2000) and the Ampere architecture (RTX 3000) is very big. Lithography is improved, while consumption is increased. New generation Tensor Cores and RT Cores have also been integrated, offering much more power. All this thinking about democratizing Ray Tracing and DLSS, the latter, which allows Death Stranding to be moved in 4K @ 60FPS with an RTX 2060.

Regarding the demo, we can see at the beginning of the video a small comparison between graphics. We see how the RTX 2080 Ti can move the game to 80-90FPS in Ultra and in 4K resolution. While the RTX 3080 is capable of ranging from 130-140FPS with the same graphic quality and resolution. As we can see, the jump between the two is quite important.

It should be noted that the RTX 2080 Ti offers a power of 13.45 TFLOPs while the RTX 3080 offers a power of 30 TFLOPs. The difference is more than twice the power, which at such high resolutions, translates into a tight performance improvement. We must bear in mind that we are talking about 4K resolutions whose textures are quite heavy.

The RTX 3080 has 8704 CUDA Cores reaching in Boost mode at 1710MHz. It is accompanied by 10GB GDDR6X @ 19GHz with a 320bit memory interface for a bandwidth of 760GB / s. It is powered by a single 12-pin PCIe connector with a consumption of 320W. It will hit the market on September 17 for a price of 719 euros.
