New Nvidia RTX LHR Mining Unlocker turns out to be malware

With the introduction of the LHR, NVIDIA wanted to make a clear difference between graphics designed for gamers and those for miners. Introduced an algorithm within the new RTX card models so that be less effective at mining cryptocurrencies and so that if they wanted to mine with them, it would be waiting in the very long term to obtain benefits: at least two years without taking into account the price of electricity and other components. But a new RTX LHR Mining Unlocker that came out a few days ago could bring full mining power back to those graphics cards, but to the delight of users, turned out to be malware.

The “Nvidia RTX LHR v2 Unlocker” plugin was advertised as a BIOS tweak for the card. It was supposedly a firmware modification that removes the performance limit for miners.

The Nvidia RTX LHR Mining Unlocker that turns out to be malware has now been removed from GitHub, and everyone has been encouraged not to download it. This may have been a way to attack cryptocurrency miners, either because they monopolize the entire stock of graphics cards and artificially raise their prices, or because of the electricity consumption of the different blockchains based on proof-of-work.

Thus, all NVIDIA RTX cards that had an LHR algorithm are still not highly recommended for mining. by proxy, they can mine, but their ability is so limited that recover only the cost of the card by mining Ethereum it can take more than two years, even from the most efficient or the cheapest.
