Clone computers increase their sales by 3% while Apple and Acer sink

Data for the sale of clone or OEM computers is published, which shows an overall increase of 3%, but does not prevent Apple from losing out.

It seems the PC market, in general, is booming. SSDs at great prices, the significant drop in RAM prices, and Ryzen processors are some of the key factors. The gaming market is growing, and now we know that the market for custom-built or OEM PCs is also on the rise. Specifically, shipments increased by 3% to 70.4 million units.

It is the second consecutive quarter in which there has been an increase in sales of this type of systems. Despite the improvement in sales, this goes by neighborhood. Lenovo, HP and Dell improve in sales due to their great diversification. Apple and Acer fall in sales compared to Q3 2018.

Increase in the sale of clone or OEM computers

We see how Lenovo continues to lead the market and manages to increase its market share by 7.1%. HP is the second in the market, but it is the one that increases the most, with more than 9% of sales. The third position is Dell and records a sales increase of more than 5%.

Those registering declines are Apple, with a drop of more than 6% in sales and Acer, with a drop of more than 7%. Acer has been losing market share for a long time because its products are not interesting enough. On the other hand, Apple continues to lose market share by offering products with an extra cost of 40-70%. It is clear that users have grown tired of paying absurd prices for products that are not up to par.

Jitesh Ubrani, Research Director for Mobile Device Trackers at IDC, highlights the issues between the United States and China. Specifically, he mentions the “higher tariffs” and notes that “once again, PC manufacturers began to build up additional inventory during the quarter, although the process was a bit more difficult as many faced supply constraints from Intel, leaving AMD with more room to grow.”
