ASUS Launches B450 II Motherboards with 256MB EEPROM BIOS

The arrival of the AMD Ryzen 5000 processors is a new update to the BIOS of some motherboards. Those of chipset B450 and X470 will receive a BIOS for the Ryzen 5000 during January 2021 in beta. To accommodate the new BIOSes, ASUS has announced the B450 II motherboards, the tag 'II' of which indicates that EEPROM memory has been expanded.

In order to install the new BIOS without clipping, ASUS updates its motherboards and adds 256MB EEPROM. This was already done by MSI with the B350 and X370 chipset motherboards. Taking advantage of this update, ASUS adds several USB 3.2 Gen2 @ 10Gbps ports to these updated motherboards.

ASUS launches new B450 II motherboards with more space for BIOS

The new Asus B450 motherboards now include BIOS FlashBack, a feature that allows you to update the firmware without having to install the processor. They also come with high-capacity firmware memory chips that expand compatibility with AMD Ryzen processors. Some models feature additional RGB LED connectors, AI-assisted noise cancellation software, and compatibility with Asus Armory Crate, a tool designed to seamlessly configure Aura Sync lighting and various system parameters.

TUF Gaming B450-Plus II

We move on to a slightly simpler motherboard within the TUF range with an 8 + 2 phase VRM power configuration. The heatsinks have been improved to improve the cooling of the VRM phases. Additionally, a second M.2 slot is added for M.2 SSD drives as well as two USB 3.2 Gen2 @ 10Gbps ports with USB Type-C port.

It only receives two USB 3.2 Gen2 @ 10Gbps ports and a DisplayPort video output, in case we want to install an APU. They are the only changes that this motherboard receives (in addition to the EEPROM memory)

Prime B450M-AII

Add two USB 3.2 Gen2 @ 10Gbps ports and an RGB LED connector, as only two enhancements. As in all previous models, the EEPROM has been increased to 256MB to support the new BIOS.

Prime B450M-KII

Finally we have this motherboard that upgrades the VRM to a DIGI + configuration. An HDMI video output is added, USB 3.2 Gen2 @ 10Gbps ports and curiously this only receives a 32MB EEPROM.
