New rumors indicate that the AMD graphics integrated into the PlayStation 5 APU would be on par in performance with the NVIDIA GTX 1080.
The rumors about the next generation of console are incessant, possibly because they are closer than we think. Microsoft and Sony will compete for a market that has been losing steam in recent years. The latest leak has to do with the graphical power of the new PlayStation 5, which would be much lower than expected. They put the new graphics of the AMD APU on a par with the GTX 1080.
As always, rumors are rumors. Normally when the river sounds, water carries, but you always have to be very careful. If this is true, not only is the possibility of RayTracing on the next consoles far away, but also 4K @ 60FPS. And they promised a lot, but as always, reality is very stark.
It seems that the graphics of the PlayStation 5 will be less powerful than expected
It had recently been leaked that the Oberon APU, based on the Gonzalo APU, would reach 2GHz on its GPU. Considering the RX 5700 XT, there was a slight chance that this was true. Many have noted that it would have the same power as an NVIDIA RTX 2080 or would be close to it. It is evident that dreaming is free.
Navi 10, which gives life to AMD RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT, currently has a total of 2 304 Stream Processors. If this silicon operated at 2GHz, it would mean that only the GPU has a TDP of about 200W. It should be noted that the APU would have Zen2 @ 7nm cores, specifically 8 cores and 16 threads. This supposes a TDP of about 65-95W, more or less, so we go to the 250-300W of TDP, a nonsense for a console.
The reality is that the AMD RX 5700 XT is more or less on par with the RTX 2070 and below the RTX 2070 Super. So to say that an APU will live up to the RTX 2080 seems crazy. Especially if we look at the APUs on the market today, which have simple iGPUs to play 1080p in medium quality.
So the most interesting thing about the PlayStation 5 is going to be that they integrate SSD drives, finally. This will significantly reduce loading times. Regarding its graphic performance, we will see it when they are launched, but each time the power is lower and everything indicates that it will continue to decrease. It should be noted that RayTracing has an impact on performance, you just have to see the Turing.
