AMD Ryzen 5000 prices drop

As various PC component price tracking portals have noted, AMD Ryzen 5000 series processor prices have dropped considerably. At least that has been noticed in many stores in the United States and Canada. The fact that the price has dropped almost uniformly suggests that it could be a permanent change instead of temporary offers.

Furthermore, the price drop seems to affect the entire range, from the high-end Ryzen 9 5950X to the cheaper options. This would be good news for those who want to improve their PC's CPU.

Price drops on AMD CPUs

These price drops affect almost all major retailers in the United States and Canada, and some of the discounts are quite remarkable. Some of the stores that offer cheaper AMD processors are Amazon, Newegg, Best Buy and Microcenter. Whether and how these discounts would apply to European retailers remains to be seen if it were a general price drop.

Some prices that have been noticed after this drop are the AMD Ryzen 9 5950X which stays at 600 US dollars on Amazon, compared to the 800 dollars it previously cost. A price that exceeds that of many entire PCs, but we remember that it is a top of the range for enthusiasts. The Ryzen 9 5900X is now just $450, down from $570.

Moving down to a lower range of CPUs, the 7-core, 5800-thread AMD Ryzen 8 16X is $350, down from $450 previously. A Ryzen 7 5700G can be had for $290, the Ryzen 5 5600X, with 6 cores and 12 threads; at just $230, and the Ryzen 5 5600G is now at $220.

The Wccftech protal has been the first to detect the price cuts of the AMD Ryzen 5000. The reason for this drop, if it were permanent, would be one of the most obvious: to compete with Intel with more accessible CPUs at the price level now that it has launched the Intel Alder Lake and one of its attractions is the lower price. The second reason would be empty store shelves ahead of the launch of Zen 4 CPUs later this year so that warehouses can stock the new models.
