GPU prices have doubled from 2020 to 2023

In recent years, if you have wanted to improve your GPU, you will have seen that the prices are being especially high, even for entry-level consumer charts. Many of us said that the prices of GPUs rise a lot, but now a study affirms how much they have risen, and that is that their prices have doubled since 2023.

The average prices of graphics cards have doubled between 2020 and 2023, and despite this, show no signs of stopping. If you want to have one of the best graphics cards of the last generation or the last two, you have to be prepared to pay a lot.

There is stock of graphics, but they do not have consistent prices

Although there are still plenty of NVIDIA RTX 3000 series cards out there and AMD's RDNA 2 in stock, their prices are quite stable. Meanwhile, the current generation is generally expensive and hasn't dropped in price so far. Nvidia's RTX 4080 could get a price cut due to disappointing sales, but it's not a sure thing.

After years of complaints, we have real numbers showing the price increases. Sales figures from German retailer Mindfactory tell the whole story. In February 2020, the average sales price of an AMD graphics card was €295, and AMD's total revenue was €442.870. For NVIDIA, the average sale price of Nvidia was 426 euros, with total revenue of 855.305 euros.

In February 2023, the average sale price of an AMD card rose to €600, an increase of 103%; and income rose to 1.026.046 euros. For NVIDIA, although they won fewer minors, the average sale price of a graphics card is 825 euros.

The reasons? We have repeated them a lot: the Covid-19 It has affected the supply chain a lot, and cryptocurrencies caused people to mass-buy stock to mine and speculate in crypto assets, creating a loop where prices went up to control demand, which was only marginally satisfied. for cryptocurrency miners.

NowadaysCryptocurrency mining has been greatly reduced, and there are plenty of GPUs in stock. Only the RTX 4090 and RX 7900 XTX sell out fast if listed at the recommended retail price. GPU prices should normalize, but that doesn't seem to be the case now. You no longer pay a huge price to resellers, but the official stores have had to increase prices so that prices have doubled in these two years.
