Intel's Raptor Lake series processors have already been spotted online at a Canadian retailer , complete with pricing. If the listed prices are anything to go by, we can expect a significant price increase compared to their Alder Lake counterparts.
The leaker @momomo_us has posted on Twitter the prices that a Canadian store has listed for at least two Intel Raptor Lake models. The prices are in Canadian dollars, and it's important to note that these are likely indicative prices for the online store and may not reflect the final prices.
Raptor Lake would mean a price increase
A quick conversion to dollars for the Core i9-13900K shows its price to be around €620. While this isn't very meaningful, such conversions are never straightforward as they don't account for differences in retail sales taxes, tariffs, and subsidies; and the prices shown are not official.
The leaked Raptor Lake prices are compared to their current Alder Lake series equivalents, which are available at the same Canadian retailer. The flagship i9-12900K costs $630 USD, about $100 Canadian less than the i9-13900K. This makes the Raptor Lake processors approximately 15% more expensive . Of course, this estimate should be taken with caution, as the prices are not final.
Doing the same with the other Raptor Lake CPUs on the list, the i7-13700K is 17% more expensive than the i7-12700K , and the i5-13600K is 15% more expensive than its Alder Lake counterpart. This would indicate a 15% price increase compared to 12th-generation products for Intel's 13th-generation mid-to-high-end processors. Given the current economic climate, this wouldn't be surprising; we're already seeing prices rise considerably.
Today we received news that the PS5 price is rising because Sony needs to maintain the profitability of its consoles . The same could be true for Intel, which needs to convince investors that its new Raptor Lake CPUs will maintain the same per-unit profitability as Alder Lake.
