First benchmarks of the AMD RX 5300M

A few days ago AMD released new drivers that added support for the AMD Radeon RX 5300M graphics card. Little is known about this new GPU that is clearly intended for laptops. It is proposed as an economical, low-consumption solution for laptops that have gaming capacity. Well, Notebookcheck has had access to a laptop with this GPU.

Along with the RX 5300M comes the Pro 5300M, a solution with fewer Compute Units. Both GPUs are designed for low-power and highly portable laptops. They will not be the most powerful solutions on the market, but they will be a simple solution for those who want something efficient and good performance.

So are the new AMD GPUs for laptops

This RX 5300M has 1408 Stream Processors or what is the same 22 Compute Units. There will be a variant of this such as the Radeon Pro 5300M with 1280 Stream Processors or 20 Compute Units. The RX 5300M is also accompanied by 3GB GDDR6 @ 12Gbps with a bandwidth of 168GB / s. On the other hand, the Pro 5300M is accompanied by 4GB GDDR6 @ 12Gbps with a bandwidth of 192GB / s. Finally note that the RX 5300M will work at 1445Mz and the Pro 5300M will work at 1230MHz.

We are going to focus on the gaming GPU, since it is the most interesting. This AMD graphics will compete directly with the NVIDIA GTX 1650 of Turing architecture. This discrete graphics from NVIDIA has 1024 CUDA Cores that works at 1560MHz and is accompanied by 4GB GDDR5. We also have the Max-Q version with the same memory and CUDA Cores, but the frequency is 1125MHz. The TDP of the NVIDIA graphics is 50W, more or less the same as the RX 5300M.

Regarding performance, AMD's solution outperforms the Max-Q by almost 20% and the GTX 8 by 1650% in the 3DMark Fire Strike. Additionally it improves performance by 8% to the GTX 1650 and 24% to the Max-Q in 3DMark 11.
