The Intel Raptor Lake would have a mode for extreme overclocking
This year, barring any last-minute delays, Intel Raptor Lake processors, an evolution of the Alder Lake hybrid architecture, will be released. With the launch so close, increasingly detailed leaks are surfacing, such as the most recent one indicating that Raptor Lake will have an extreme power consumption mode for overclocking tasks.
This " unlimited power " function allows you to increase power consumption to the limit, assuming sufficient cooling. In the case of the top-of-the-line Core i9-13900K, this setting allows for an extreme power consumption of around 350 W.

The news comes from One Raichu on Twitter, who claims to have a sample of Raptor Lake. He posted screenshots and Cinebench scores for Raptor Lake's flagship CPU. The i9-13900K features eight hyperthreaded performance cores and 16 efficiency cores. The CPU has been observed to offer a dual-core boost clock of 5,8 GHz , the same as in previous leaks. Its all-core boost clock is 5,5 GHz, an improvement over the single-core boost clock of the Core i9-12900KS at that speed. It will be Intel's first consumer CPU with 24 cores and 32 threads.
The benchmark was run in both “power limited” and “unlimited” settings. With the test run in “power limited” mode, it was able to consume 253W, very close to what the Alder Lakes can do. With the regulator removed, the Raptor Lake CPU was able to consume an additional 100W of power.
It enabled a noticeable performance boost. Single-core performance remained virtually unchanged between tests, but multi-core scores increased by 14%. According to Wccftech, in "unlimited" mode, this represents a 48% increase in multi-core Cinebench performance compared to the 12900K. Compared to the 32-thread Ryzen 9 5950X, it's a 67% performance increase. Even its standard power configuration offers a 47% advantage over AMD's most powerful consumer CPU, at least until Zen 4 arrives.
This level of energy consumption necessitates powerful liquid cooling to keep it within specifications. Information on the maximum temperatures reached during testing was not included. And it's expected that once a commercial model is released, experiments with liquid nitrogen will be conducted.
