Cyberpunk 2077 performs 20% less on AMD Ryzen compared to Intel Core

Improving Cyberpunk 2077 performance on AMD Ryzen processors is pretty straightforward

The Cyberpunk 2077 game was initially scheduled to be released earlier this year. It has been delayed numerous times, until a few days ago it was launched on the market. CD Projekt RED has always said that the delay was because they wanted to release the game as polished and streamlined as possible. Well, it seems that the Cyberpunk 2077 has been developed for Intel Core processors and does not get along very well with AMD Ryzen.

That it is optimized (at least on PC) for Intel Core is curious, when the consoles are based on Ryzen processors. Apparently the problem is that Cyberpunk 2077 has problems to take advantage of the SMT of the AMD Ryzen. It is indicated that it does not work well with Simultaneous Multi-Threading (SMT) and this would be generating poor performance in Zen architecture processors.

Cyberpunk 2077 malfunctions on AMD Ryzen

But it is not only developed for Intel Core processors, also for NVIDIA RTX graphics. Cyberpunk 2077 supports ray tracing technology, but only with NVIDIA graphics cards. The developers have not given data, but it could have to do with how late this technology has arrived at AMD and that it would still be very green.

The Cyberpunk 2077 offers 20% better performance on Intel Core-based systems than on AMD Ryzen-based systems. A screenshot of the Windows 10 Task Manager has even been published where you can see that the game uses the physical cores and not the logical ones. But, there is also a 'simple' solution that allows you to correct the problem.

As noted, the problem is caused by the developers using the Intel C ++ compiler. When running the game with an AMD Ryzen, there is a performance loss of up to 20%. The positive is that this problem can be corrected by the user. After correction, greater stability and an improvement of more than 10FPS are achieved on processors with a large number of cores.

How to fix the performance problem

  1. We download the HxD Hex Editor
  2. We have to look for the executable file Cyberpunk2077.exe (Cyberpunk 2077bitnx64 if you have it in GOG)
  3. We make a backup copy of the file in case something goes wrong
  4. We drag the executable Cyberpunk2077.exe to the HxD Hex Editor software
  5. Now a large number of hexadecimal numbers will appear on the screen
  6. We have to press the configuration 'CTRL + F', to change the column to hexadecimal values
  7. We must enter the following line without the quotes "75 30 33 C9 B8 01 00 00 00 0F A2 8B C8 C1 F9 08". These values will appear highlighted
  8. Now we change those values to the following values «EB 30 33 C9 B8 01 00 00 00 0F A2 8B C8 C1 F9 08»
  9. Once we change the values, we give it to save and the problem should have been corrected.
