Summary of AMD news for Computex 2022

Computex 2022 has started today, and as usual, AMD has been one of the strong speakers announcing its news. Among them, access to memory was expected, along with confirmed details of the imminent AMD Ryzen 7000 and its Zen 3 architecture and the AM5 platform.

New Ryzen 7000 processors announced, and more Ryzen 6000 laptops

AMD today unveiled its latest innovations in computing technology to advance the high-performance computing experience. Dr. Lisa Su introduced the upcoming Ryzen 7000 Series desktop processors featuring the new “Zen 4” architecture. These CPUs will deliver a significant performance boost and will arrive in fall 2022.

AMD's strong growth and momentum in the notebook market was also highlighted. To date, 70 of the more than 200 planned ultra-slim, gaming and business notebook designs have been launched or announced. equipped with processors Ryzen 6000. Along with this, the latest addition to the Ryzen Mobile line, “Mendocino,” was announced, as well as AMD’s latest smart technology, SmartAccess Storage.

amd ryzen 4 zen 7000

The new Ryzen 7000 Series desktop processors are based on the 5nm “Zen 4” architecture. The new processors will double the amount of L2 cache per core, will feature higher clock speeds and are anticipated to provide more than a 15% increase in single-threaded performance compared to the previous generation. The presentation showed that a Ryzen 7000 Series desktop processor in pre-production ran at a clock speed of 5,5 GHz during AAA gaming, and that it was over 30% faster than an Intel Core i9 12900K in a multi-threaded Blender rendering workload.

They will feature a new 6nm I/O chip, an AMD RDNA™ 2-based graphics engine, a new low-power architecture, support for the latest memory and connectivity technologies such as DDR5 and PCI Express® 5.0, and support for up to 4 screens.

This will be the AMD AM5 platform

The new AMD Socket AM5 platform will offer one for enthusiasts. This new socket features a 1718-pin LGA design with support for processors up to 170W TDP, dual-channel DDR5 memory support, and new SVI3 power infrastructure. It will have up to 24 PCIe 5.0 lanes.

It will come in the form of three types of motherboards:

  • X670 Extreme: For increased connectivity and extreme overclocking capabilities with PCIe 5.0 support for two graphics slots and one storage slot
  • X670: Copn overclocking support, PCIe 5.0 in one storage slot with optional graphics support.
  • B650: For high-performance users with PCIe 5.0 storage support

Motherboard models spanning all three chipsets are expected from regular partners who have made AMD motherboards in the past.

More Ryzen Mobile Variety

The new “Mendocino” processors will offer everyday performance and are expected to be priced between $399 and $699. Featuring “Zen 2” cores and graphics based on the RDNA 2 architecture, they will be designed for better battery life and higher performance in that price range. They will be available through OEM partners in Q2022 XNUMX.

AMD Advantage™ Systems and AMD SmartAccess Storage

AMD Advantage laptops will be designed to deliver better gaming experiences. They will do it with better performance, high refresh rate screens and great battery life at the hardware level. At the software level, they feature AMD intelligent technologies that enable AMD CPUs and GPUs to work together to help remove bottlenecks of the System.

Among the new technologies introduced today is AMD SmartAccess Storage, which supports Microsoft Direct Storage, and uses AMD Smart Access Memory technology and more to help reduce game load times and speed up the transmission of textures.

The new AMD Advantage systems are available through various OEM manufacturers. Some of them will be Alienware, Asus, Lenovom and HP, as well as systems integrators from Metamechbook and Origin PC.
