Last month, NVIDIA launched the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti with GDDR6X memory and the 8GB RTX 3060 as new additions to the NVIDIA RTX 3000 series of GPUs. According to internal sources at WCCCFTech, the manufacturer has contacted AIC partners to replace the GDDR6 variants of the RTX 3060 Ti once the stock is depleted.
The price of the upgraded graphics card will remain the same, at around $419. The other GPU being released, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 8GB, is not intended to replace any existing NVIDIA graphics card in a similar category. The green brand expects consumers to notice the advantages of the new GDDR6X variant, which offers 35% more bandwidth and better performance than the standard 8GB version.
The RTX 3060 Ti with GDDR6X will be the only ones that will be on the market soon
Replacing the stock of older GDDR6 GPUs was anticipated in September, when the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 8 GB and RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X GPUs were announced. At that time there was a lack of next-gen options for the mid-range market until sometime in 2023.
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti retains the same GA104 GPU core with an improved 8GB of GDDR6X memory. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 GPU uses a 128-bit bus interface, initially seen in the company's 192-bit 12GB models. In the case of the new GPU, the GDDR6X model will provide a memory bandwidth of 240GB/s, 33% less than its 12GB counterparts. Several manufacturers have already unveiled their new RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X models, and we expect to see more appear in the coming weeks.
It is also expected that the launch of the new RTX 3060 models, NVIDIA will delay the future launch of an RTX 4060 soon. They already have a mid-range GPU on the market, and if they made the jump to the RTX 4060, they would find that they would have to put it at a very high price for that range, something that is causing the RTX 44080 and 4090 to stay in the shelves. NVIDIA does well in the mid-tier graphics card market, as they don't want to give AMD or Intel an advantage in that space.
