The RTX 3060 could have an 8 GB model and GDDR6X memory
A retailer selling OEM parts for Lenovo is now listing an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 model with upgraded GDDR6X memory, but with a lower memory capacity. The GeForce RTX 3060 was rumored to be getting a memory cut to 8GB, but no one had mentioned this SKU until now. were to receive a faster type of memory.
A few days ago it was seen that a UK retailer is preparing to sell the RTX 3060 Ti Founders Edition, but with GDDR6X memory. This confirms previous speculation regarding the new RTX 3000 with GDDR6X memory.
The RTX 3060 will live with models with better memory, but less capacity, possibly for OEM
If this listing from the Slovakian retailer for a “Lenovo RTX 3060 12GB GDDR6X» is correct, then this would suggest that the non-Ti RTX 3060 could follow suit with faster memory also. A memory upgrade to the GDDR6X standard would likely mean higher memory speed and bandwidth. But it would also mean a higher TDP.

The specifications listed by the Slovakian retailer do not seem to show either of the two things that are speculated. The boost clock remains at 1,78 GHz and the maximum power consumption appears to be the same at 170 W.
A quick check made by the product's Videocardz portal shows that fits Lenovo RTX 3060 GDDR6 SKU. So they think you could assume it's simply an error on the retailer's part, or a memory change to an existing part. Both options are equally plausible, given recent rumours. If the latter is true, it is most likely an OEM-only model, in this case, Lenovo PCs. It is not likely that this will be an officially endorsed product by NVIDIA or that we will see it for free. At best, we could see it in pre-built PCs from other OEM manufacturers.
It is expected that throughout the life cycle RTX 3000 models will continue to be sold, including the RTX 3060. VIDIA has seen the benefits of having more than one generation of GPUs for sale in the market, in order to give more opportunities and choice of users.
