Intel Sapphire Rapid and Raptor Lake could arrive in October

On Chinese portal Bilibili, well-known hardware leaker and analyst Enthusiastic Citizen, who now goes by the handle “ECSM_Official,” has posted a possible release schedule for various Intel and AMD platforms for this year. The leak reportedly revealed information about Intel’s upcoming series of HEDT CPUs and consumer CPUs known as Sapphire Rapids and Raptor Lake.

The leaker claims that both series of CPUs will be released in the month of October this year. They would come out almost a year after the Alder Lake series. A simultaneous launch of the Raptor Lake series like Saphhire Rapids could give Internet a huge amount of sales in that quarter and at the end of the year by covering the consumer and high-end segments at the same time.

October would be an important month for Intel this year

Intel's HEDT CPU lineup hasn't seen a major update in a long time. While an Aldser Lake-X was recently released, it's a standalone model compared to the launch of a dedicated series.

The HEDT CPUs launching in October will not be marketed as the Core-X series, but rather as the Intel Xeon W3400/2400. This is because they will most likely target the same consumer market as the AMD Threadripper PRO . The incentive to offer high-core-count CPUs with greater power and connectivity options is no longer as compelling, given that mainstream series are getting more cores and even more advanced motherboards.

The 13th generation Core Raptor Lake processors are rumored to launch in October with support for existing motherboards, as they share the LGA 1700 socket. They are also expected to be accompanied by the new Z790 platform of high-end motherboards. The rumor suggests that new 700 series motherboards, including the H770 and B760 series, will be released next year. With all this in mind, speculation points to a launch similar to Intel's Alder Lake, with desktop versions released first, followed by overclocking versions, and then laptop versions a few months later. The upcoming Intel Xeon W3400 and W2400 processors could be released alongside the Raptor Lake processors, positioned as CPUs for the professional segment within the same launch period.
