Ryzen 7 4800U, AMD's 8-core laptop processor with a 15W TDP

A few moments ago was the AMD conference at CES 2020 in Las Vegas. Lisa Su, CEO of AMD presented different product lines that will be released to the market in the coming months. The first of the products that he has shown us is the processor for compact laptops Ryzen 7 4800U. A very low consumption processor designed for efficiency and portability.

The company with this processor seeks to offer a high-power solution in the minimum space. It is designed for users who travel a lot, since with this processor we not only have efficiency, but also autonomy. In addition, it allows to develop extremely light notebooks, thus making them highly light.

Introduced the AMD Ryzen 7 4800U

This new Ryzen 7 4800U processor is characterized by being the first 8-core and 16-thread processor for notebook computers. This laptop works at a base frequency of 1.8GHz and in Boost mode it reaches 4.2GHz. It implements a Radeon 8 iGPU, which of course indicates that it has 8 Compute Units. All with a TDP of only 15W.

As we can see in the Sonetic benchmarks, this processor is 4% more powerful than the Intel Core i7-1065G7 in single-core performance . In multi-core performance, the AMD processor achieves 90% more performance, which is logical given its higher core count. This performance was obtained in the Cinebench R20 synthetic benchmark. However, for gaming, the processor was subjected to the 3DMark Time Spy Extreme test, where the AMD processor achieved 28% better performance than the Intel processor.

But it is also that the Ryzen 7 4800U is more powerful in other synthetic benchmarks, both for gaming and professionals. In games, it is around 27-28% more power, but in a benchmark for professionals, it is 48% more powerful than the Core i7-1065G7.

AMD also indicates that these new processors in Cinebench R20 offer more than double the performance for low compared to the Zen + @ 12nm. This is achieved thanks to a 30% improvement in the design and IPC and the 7nm lithography process by 70%.

Lenovo Yoga will be the first laptop to implement the Ryzen 7 4800U. This is the lightest and thinnest 8-core laptop on the market available. This AMD processor is expected to be in more than 100 laptops and the first models will hit the market in Q1 2020.
