The 5,5 GHz of the Ryzen 7000 is achieved without overclocking

During its presentation at Computex 2022, AMD announced its new line of Ryzen 7000 processors based on the Zen 4 architecture. There was a demo using a 16-core CPU running the game. Ghostwire: Tokyo, With which reached speeds of 5,3 and 5,5 GHz.

AMD assures users who flooded social networks with comments that the Ryzen 7000 in question worked without any help from overclocking. In an interview, AMD gaming solutions and marketing executives Robert Hallock and Frank Azor stated that the 16-core CPU was a prototype running on an AMD reference motherboard. In other words, while it is possible to achieve these speeds without overclocking, a top-of-the-range computer will be needed.

Ryzen 7000 already impress even without overclocking

The unspecified Ryzen 7000 processor was cooled by a 280mm AIO liquid cooler. This allowed the processor to run at higher clock speeds. They explained that the CPU was not overclocked and that the frequencies shown are typical for the CPU. Depending on the situation, most cores will run at approximately 5,5 GHz, with frequency fluctuations between 5,2 and 5,5 GHz on all 16 cores while running Ghostwire: Tokyo. The Ryzen 7000 CPU was accompanied by two 5 GB DDR6000-30 CL16 memories.

Regarding the consumption of 170 W reported during the presentation of the new processors, AMD has confirmed that it is not the TDP of the 7000-core Ryzen 16 CPU, which consumed 125 W, but the higher power supply capacity of the new socket AM5 LGA 1718. This ensures that the CPU has the driving range to reach such high frequencies on multiple cores.

Although the next generation of Ryzen processors has been revealed, little technical information has been revealed, and even the number of models that this family will have. AMD claims that doubled L2 cache per core, which has gained 15% in single-threaded performance and boost speeds exceed 5 GHz. Drivers for RDNA 2 graphics, DDR5 memory, and PCIe 5.0 memory controllers will be integrated into the processors. Lastly, Zen 4 based cores are known to be built on 5nm chips.
