Samsung will expand a factory in China to improve the production of NAND Flash memories for SSDs
We have seen how solid state storage units or SSDs have been falling in price and increasing in capacity. One of the largest manufacturers on the market is Samsung, who controls solid state manufacturing. This they have achieved by innovating significantly in the memory sector, being the first to develop 3D NAND memories. To continue to lead, it will expand its factory in factory in China.
Constant innovation in the SSD market has allowed us to reach 1TB capacities at prices below €100. While SSDs still have a long way to go in terms of capacity, they are getting closer. And while SSDs may fall short in capacity, they dominate HDDs in all other aspects.

The company's plan is to invest about 8.000 million dollars in expanding the plant in the city of Xian. The new plant is responsible for producing V-NAND (trade name of V-NAND) memories.
During the last two years the price of NAND memories has fallen significantly, increasing their demand. It is increasingly rare to see laptops with mechanical hard drives, even Sony and Microsoft consoles will carry SSD drives, which according to rumors, would have been manufactured by Samsung.
Remember that between the end of 2018 and the beginning of 2019, many NAND memory manufacturers canceled their expansion plans. The canceled plans would be being reactivated.
This plant would currently have a capacity of 120.000 wafers per month and it is expected that with the expansion it will reach 130.000 wafers. For this, new machines for NAND 3D memories of 136 layers or more will be introduced. Note that Samsung has not provided data on the production capacity or the cost of the expansion. They have simply posited as flexible when it comes to expanding production.
