The AMD Ryzen 5 3550U is seen for gaming laptops
Filtered the AMD Ryzen 5 3550U processor, a very low-power APU with Vega 9 graphics designed for cheap gaming laptops.
We saw yesterday how Intel introduced new 9th Generation Core processors for laptops. A few moments ago it was leaked that the AMD Ryzen 3000 Series APUs will come with the DIE and the IHS soldered. The latest has been the leak of a new APU, it is designed especially for laptops. The new leak highlights a low-power APU with Vega 8 graphics. This graphics card is intended to compete with the company's Gen2 GT11 iGPUs.
New AMD Ryzen APUs with Vega 9 Graphics?
According to the leaks, the processor would be the Ryzen 5 3550U. This processor has a very low consumption, of only 15 watts, designed to give autonomy to laptops. The leaked specifications indicate that it would have four cores and eight threads, implemented a Vega 9. Regarding the working frequencies, no data has been given, but they should be modest.
This Ryzen 5 3550U will have similar characteristics as the Ryzen 5 3550H, also for laptops. This processor will also have 4 cores and 8 threads, which will work at a base frequency of 2.1GHz and a Boost frequency of 3.7GHz. Rumors indicate that this processor will implement a Vega 8, which means that it will carry 8CU with 512 Shaders. The working frequency of this iGPU has not been revealed.
Possibly it will be at Computex 2019 when we see these new processors and laptops based on them. What is certain is that they will be a tough competitor to the 9th Gen Intel. Some Intel processors that operate between 35-45W with Gen11 graphics, which is not a big deal, as we know. When these new laptops with AMD Ryzen APUs become available, we'll see who's more powerful.
