Sony would implement an eight-core AMD Ryzen processor in the PlayStation 5

New rumors suggest that Sony's PlayStation would be announced at the end of 2019 and would feature an eight-core AMD Ryzen processor.

The fact that Sony is not present at E3 2019 for the first time in history suggests that the company could launch a new console, the PlayStation 2020 at the latest in 5. Rumors indicate that this console will be based on AMD Ryzen processors with eight cores. Sony already used an eight-core Jaguar processor and it is possible that this generation will use eight-core Zen 2 with the intention of launching a console that is really capable of running games in 4K @ 60 FPS resolutions in a stable way.

Sony will base the PlayStation 5 on an eight-core AMD Ryzen processor.

Typically I use Ryzen at 7nm and also use a Navi GPU at 7nm to give the console the real ability to work at 4K graphics resolution. Thanks to using a Navi GPU this should double the power of the Xbox One X which integrates a graphics similar to the RX 480 and which is unable to offer 4K @ 30FPS in a stable way. The Navi may ditch expensive HBM2 memories and opt for GDDR6 memories, as long as the graphics is up to the task.

If all goes to plan, the PlayStation 5 would be announced at the end of 2019 and would arrive in 2020 for a price of around € 500. This is a competitive price quite similar to a gaming PC, it could even be more powerful if an SSD is installed. The counterpart of consoles is that to access the multiplayer modes of the titles, payment is required and the games are much more expensive, so the conventional computer always wins, in addition to admitting mods and other functionalities.
