Intel supplies the hardware for 23 supercomputers that enter the TOP500 such as the Aurora supercomputer

Intel has announced the debut of 23 new systems on the global TOP500 list, in collaboration with laboratories, universities, and original equipment manufacturers. These supercomputers are among the first to install and deploy the Intel Data Center GPU Max series, the Intel Xeon CPU Max series, and 4th generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors.

Four Intel-based systems are among the top 10 in the 62nd edition of the TOP500 list. In it, supercomputers are ranked based on their performance in the Linpack high-performance test.

This year's TOP500 list marks the debut of the Intel Data Center GPU Max series, designed to meet the demand for accelerated discrete solutions in the HPC and AI sectors. Also featured are 4th generation Intel Xeon processors and the Xeon CPU Max series with high-bandwidth memory.

The TOP500 list was announced at the SC23 event in Denver . The Aurora supercomputer, a collaboration between Intel, Argonne National Laboratory, and Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), ranks second with 585,34 petaflops in a partial system run. Its construction was completed at the end of June, and the expansive system features 166 racks, 10.624 compute blades, 21.248 Max Series CPUs, and 63.744 Max Series GPUs.

Recent success stories from Argonne's science program were presented at SC23, including unraveling the mysteries of molecular science with the GAMESS system and large-scale reconstruction of the brain connectome with Connectomics ML. Intel, Argonne and HPE are working on system validation, verification and expansion to make Aurora available to users in 2024.

Other new systems are Camphor 3, Clementina XX1, CTS-2's Dane, Bengal and Stout. These systems are enhanced with oneAPI and AI tools to help developers accelerate HPC and AI workloads and improve code portability across multiple architectures.
