AMD and LUMI present a study on the weather and artificial intelligence
AMD's high-performance processors for supercomputers are playing a crucial role in the advancements of supercomputer development. Examples include the LUMI supercomputer , which, in addition to its impressive performance, stands out for its efficiency and energy savings, reducing the power consumption of the complex and demanding operations it performs. Equipped with a range of AMD EPYC processors and Instinct accelerators, the LUMI supercomputer is one of the fastest and most energy-efficient in the world , pushing the boundaries of scientific research.
In a new video, AMD has unveiled the LUMI supercomputer. In it, their capacities and the research projects they carry out have been seen.
This is how the LUMI supercomputer with AMD processors contributes to research advances
The work between AMD, HPE and the LUMI supercomputer opens the door to new scientific advances, including:
- Promotion of Destination Earth Research. With Destination Earth, a digital twin of Earth's weather systems is created to try to determine how to adapt to climate change and influence him. Areas and factors such as forest fires, biodiversity and food security are taken into account.
- Powering research with ComPatAI to detect cancer, based on quantitative data thus leading to faster and more accurate diagnoses.
- The collaboration between CSC, Hugging Face and AMD made it possible to take advantage of BLOOM. This is a Finnish language model, to train and create the largest Finnish language model ever created in LUMI.
Here are just a few examples of what supercomputer systems can achieve with AMD EPYC CPUs and Instinct accelerators. Not only has the LUMI supercomputer achieved more advances, but it achieves it at a lower energy cost with AMD hardware than with other configurations with equivalent performance.
