TeamGroup announces its first DDR5 @ 4800MHz modules

Next year, DDR5 RAM should begin to be standardized, reaching servers first. The new DDR5 standard requires less voltage to operate and supports higher frequencies. TeamGroup has just announced the first kits of DDR5 memory from its ELITE range. Each of these new modules will have 16GB of capacity and a working frequency of 4800MHz.

First, the DDR5 standard will reach servers with the Intel Ice Lake-SP in mid-2021. Intel could also add support for DDR5 in the Alder Lake-S processors, thus being the first desktop processors to support this standard. AMD Ryzen are expected to support DDR5 in 2022 with a necessary socket change.

TeamGroup announces its first DDR5 @ 4800MHz kits

As we said, the new TeamGroup ELITE modules based on the DDR5 standard will arrive at frequencies of 4800MHz. These modules to function work at 1.1V, reducing consumption by 10% with respect to the DDR4 standard. In addition, the new DDR5 standard will offer frequencies of 4800-5200MHz, increasing by 60% over DDR4.

Currently DDR4 modules with error correcting code (ECC) require an additional chip installed on the PCB. The new DDR5 modules center with ECC support on the matrix itself. This ECC technology allows the correction of single bit errors, something important in servers and data centers, as it improves the stability of the system.

The first TeamGroup DDR5 modules will hit the market next year and will be compatible with Intel and AMD processors. These new ELITE modules are expected to arrive during the third quarter of 2021. Initially, these modules will be destined for the segment of servers, Data Centers and the like.

It is expected that by Q4 2021, Intel will launch the Alder Lake-S processors and possibly AMD will launch the Ryzen 6000. But that is still many months away.
