Tencent is developing a Data Center of 1 million servers based on AMD EPYC ROME processors

Although there is not much talk about Tencent, the Chinese company is one of the largest on the internet. Above all, it stands out for being the largest game distributor in China, with titles such as PUBG or Minecraft. Currently the company Tencent is working on a large data center which was located in the city of Qingyuan, located in the Chinese province of Guangdong.

The great peculiarity is that these facilities will have more than a million servers. Tencent even highlights that it is the largest infrastructure made to date in the South China region. In addition, these facilities make use of the fourth generation of Block T technology, allowing the process to be simplified.

Tencent works in a Data Center with 1 million servers

We must emphasize that Block T technology is a standardized construction of servers for Data Centers. Through this production system, systems are obtained as easy to install as if they were Lego blocks. This significantly simplifies the process of construction, assembly, commissioning and expansion of the facilities.

This Data Center also makes use of the first Star Lake servers developed by the Chinese company itself. Star Lake servers are based on AMD EPYC ROME @ 7nm processors. So AMD will greatly benefit from building these new server systems.

Star Lake also uses a 'thermal siphon' technology to improve charging efficiency by 50%. Additionally, EPYC Rome-based servers have been built and optimized for cloud computing, storage, and networking.

Tencent also highlighted that it will offer a 35% performance improvement over previous systems based on Intel Xeon processors. Regarding the improvement in specific workloads, such as queries per second, there is an improvement of up to 150%.
