Thermaltake announces a power supply with two PCie Gen5 connectors

We are already assuming that the next graphics cards are going to be very energy demanding if we want to go for the high-end or enthusiast. The power supplies are going to have to adapt, first in terms of the energy capacity they can supply, and then on standardized connectors so that the connection is not a tangle of wires. The 5+12 pin Pcie Gen4 connector is expected to become a standard for demanding graphics cards, needing one or two connectors even if rumors of the RTX 4080 and RTX 4090 come true and really demand a lot of power.

And it is that manufacturers are already attentive to this factor that will condition the assembly of the most demanding PCs. 1000W power supplies have already been announced, but Thermaltake is cautious and has just announced a 1250W and 1650W model, with two PCie Gen5 connectors.

At the 2022 Thermaltake Expo organized virtually, the manufacturer has announced its new series of power supplies that will follow Intel's ATX 3.0 specs. Such specifications increase the duration requirements of the power peaks and, consequently, require higher quality components. They took the opportunity to present their iRGB Plus series with variants of 1250 W and 1650 W.

They are class 80+ Titanium power supplies, and they come with a 140mm RGB fan. They use 100% Japanese capacitors and implement the new digital platform design with a retention time greater than 16ms and ripple noise less than 30mV. The power supply has a voltage regulation within the 2% range.

What they have highlighted the most is that it is the first Thermaltake power supply offering two native 12+4 pin power connectors. The RTX 3090 Ti comes equipped with dual 16-pin connectors as you otherwise need up to five or six 8-pin power cables.

Thermaltake power supplies will be prepared for these types of designs. The vast majority of power supplies available on the market only offer power adapters, which usually go up to 450W, but rumors claim that the RTX 4090 model could come with a 4x8-pin to 16-pin adapter, theoretically offering up to 600W. series, the 1650 W model also features dual 16-pin power connectors.
