AMD Threadripper 2000 prices drop to make room for the next generation of workstation processors

The price of the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2000 plummets the day after the launch of the Ryzen 3000 processors for the domestic market.

Yesterday, AMD launched its Ryzen 3000 Series processors , which are generating very positive buzz. The top-of-the-line Zen 2 processors for the consumer market will have a maximum of 16 cores. This will be the first processor for the consumer and gaming sectors to boast such a high core count. The Threadripper 3000 series, also based on Zen 2 at 7nm, should be arriving soon.

Guru3D has found a sharp drop in prices for second-generation professional processors. The one that has plummeted the most is the 12-core, 24-thread Threadripper 2920X, which has received a discount of almost €200. Meanwhile, the 16-core, 32-thread Threadripper 2950X has fallen by just over €100.

Discounts on second-generation AMD Threadripper

If someone is thinking of mounting a Workstation, a small server or the like, these processors are at a very good price. Logically to use it to play is not the best idea, but if it is for streaming with games, it can be a great option. The problem is the heatsink, which is huge, the somewhat expensive motherboards and the amount of RAM, since these processors are Quad Channel.

Specifically, the 2950-core Threadripper 16X goes from 899 euros to 779 euros. The 2920-core Threadripper 12X goes from 599 euros to 419 euros. The price of the 2970-core, 24-thread Threadripper 48WX has also dropped. This processor goes from 1 euros to 299 euros.

We see how AMD wants to get rid of the Threadripper based on Zen + @ 12nm before the arrival of the new ones. Note that those based on Zen2 will have a better CPI, lower consumption and, in theory, lower heat generation. Still, with these processors and compatible motherboards, we will have an excellent solution.
