Rumor indicates TSMC is building a chip factory just for Intel

Although TSMC has indicated that it would see Intel as a temporary customer, they are building a plant just for their chips

Last Friday we were talking with Intel about how the year 2020 was and what is expected in 2021. We talked about many things and they gave us a very interesting piece of information: they have three factories entirely to manufacture 10nm chips. Now we know that, according to some rumors, TSMC would be building a plant of chip production for Intel only.

Although there is no official confirmation, TSMC would be the one who would produce Intel's dedicated GPUs. According to the different information that has been appearing, the Intel Xe for gaming would be manufactured by TSMC under the 6nm node. An agreement that would be for the very long term, according to the most recent information.

TSMC is building a new chip factory for Intel

It appears that the US company and the Taiwanese foundry have a long-term agreement. Although TSMC has indicated in the past that they saw Intel as a one-time customer, the reality would be different. New rumors indicate that TSMC is building a 4nm chip factory just for Intel.

TSMC's new factory would be located in the Chinese city of Baoshan. This new plant, according to rumors, would employ more than 8.000 engineers. A plant that would only produce chips for Intel, what we do not know is whether they will be graphics chips or processors.

According to rumors, TSMC will supply wafers manufactured in 5nm for engineering tests. Note that the 4nm node is nothing more than an optimization of the 5nm node. So there will be a compatibility of designs between both chip manufacturing processes.

Also, according to rumors, it will be next January 21 when Intel announces the outsourcing of the production of a good part of its products. And it is that next January 21 is when Intel will publish the financial results of the past year 2020.
