TSMC will manufacture the Huawei Kirin 980 with its 7nm chip manufacturing process
The Taiwanese manufacturer of silicon chips, TSMC, will be in charge of producing the Kirin 980 of HiSilicon, a Huawei subsidiary, which are characterized by their capacity in terms of Artificial Intelligence.
There are two very different careers in the silicon industry right now. This more mature and advanced process will allow us to see GPUs based on this 7nm process in the market this year and also 7nm processors.
HiSilicon, a Huawei subsidiary company, plans to launch the 980nm-based Kirin 7 processors from TSMC, which will be the basis for the new high-end Huawei terminals, which will be launched during the second half of the year, possibly a month earlier. of Christmas. These processors will integrate the IP Cambricon processor. The Cambricons already used Kirin 970 processors, based on TSMC's 10nm.
In addition, TSMC has the product portfolio of Bitmain, who in addition to manufacturing ASICs with 16nm and 28nm processors, has already requested the production of 12nm chips for their ASICs and it seems that they are working on the 7nm process, but for the moment they will not make the jump to this new node.
