WiFi 6: WiFi Alliance certification program begins the device verification process under this standard

Launched by the WiFi Alliance a certification program for WiFi 6 devices, which have already started to be commercialized.

One of the most important communication technologies today is WiFi. This standard allows us to connect to the internet without the need for cables and without consuming data. The WiFi Alliance is in charge of developing this standard and certifying the devices. Now they have announced a certification program for the WiFi 6 standard (802.11ax) that will allow to verify its correct implementation.

After launching the 802.11ac standard, WiFi Alliance decided to rename the updates. Thus the 802.11ac became commercially known as WiFi 5 and the new 802.11ax is commercially known as WiFi 6. This makes it simpler for the end user who does not have great technical knowledge.

Created the certification program for WiFi 6

Products under the 802.11ax standard have started to be marketed a few months ago. This is because the technical bases were available and it was possible to develop systems that would work with this standard. Several manufacturers have launched products with the new specifications, but there are no certifications. Now the WiFi Alliance claims to have a WiFi 6 implementation verification system.

If you look at it, they all arrive with the WiFi 6 identifier, but under this does not appear 'Certified', which verifies that it has been certified. The first devices to be verified will be those that are already being marketed. The access points, routers and devices will be verified, such as the Samsung Galaxy Note 10, which is the first terminal with WiFi 6 support.

It seems unlikely that leading brands that have launched devices will not receive certification. Above all, it will be verified that the implementation is correct, the security standards are met and the functionalities of this standard are met.

WiFi 6 does not offer us great improvements in terms of transfer speeds. Above all, it has been developed for spaces where there is a large amount of load and traffic. The tasks are parallelized, improving the signal, better managing traffic and other similar functions. WPA3 and 1024-QAM are also added for security. 160MHz channels added and support for 'wake time targets' devices
