Hitman adds support for new HDR technology
Hitman will be one of the first titles that supports HDR technology, which allows improving the resolution and graphic quality and with it the game experience.
HDR technology is developing and although we still do not have enough products and devices on the market for HDR in video games. NVIDIA has opted to update G-Sync to support HDR and AMD has developed FreeSync 2 with HDR. Monitors with support for these technologies or simply HDR are not very widespread yet. There is also a lack of video games compatible with HDR technology and the first one that seems to want to position itself in this new market has been Hitman, developed by IO Interactive.
IO Interactive has developed HDR support for the game Hitman, which will arrive on January 31 on all platforms, with the exception of the XBOX ONE that does not have native support for HDR. Support for this new technology provides high-quality HDR technologies in compatible monitors, which allows a great improvement in the graphic quality of games showing brighter and darker images, as well as simulating explosions with higher quality the sun and other details in bright environments.
IO Interactive’s lead programmer Anders Wang Kristensen commented: “As an example, think of 47 in a dark room looking out a bright window. Without HDR you wouldn’t be able to see what’s outside, whereas with HDR you can simultaneously see details inside the room and outside the window.” He added: “Another extreme example is the sun. Without HDR we couldn’t make the sun shine on a white piece of paper, so we had to ‘fake’ a blinding sun. With HDR we can draw the sun several times brighter, so it’s really close to being blinding, just like in real life.”
